This is the oldest of the old cabins that
you can stay in. It is my personal favorite
of all the cabins :)
There is an old bell in
the chapel at the camp.
The kids had lots of
fun ringing it!
Hanna walks in one of the
streams at the camp.
Cody made a walk way down to
a stream right beside where we
were camping. It was very pretty.
Josephine lounges on her Dora
lawn chair at the campsite.
Cody does archery at the archery
range. You can rent a recurve
or compound bow.
Susan?
The kids at the pulpit in the old chapel.
The bouldering wall has three sides
that you are supposed to go around
without falling or grabbing the top.
Trust me, it’s harder than it looks!
At the tomahawk and knife throwing
range. There are moving and still targets.
“Come on, Naomi! Didn’t you
know you’re not suppose to grab
the top!?!?!”
Inside the lodge there are lots of
neat things to look at and rooms you
can stay in.
There is a stream right next to the more
modern cabins that is wonderful.
The view from our campsite.
Where we camped. The stream is
behind the camper and the modern
cabins are in front and a bit to the right.
Going to the pool!! There are two
simply huge pools that are set up in
summer.
The perfect place to relax. We painted
on rocks from the stream and
played music.
At the Archery Range
By Hanna
I strung my first arrow onto the bow I held in my left hand. I hadn’t shot a bow, like an actual bow that fit me with a
target and all, in a long time. I aimed the yellow and red feathered arrow at the target about 40 feet away from where my
I stood with my feet planted in the concrete pad I was standing on. I put on my “Susan face” and let ‘er fly. “Th-wap!”
The arrow hit the target, first try! I strung my next arrow and repeated my steps. “Th-wap!” The second arrow hit!
Cody who had just tried his two arrows with not such good results gave me a mock cross look.
“I told you I got all my bow and arrow skills from Walden Media and Queen Susan herself!” I exclaimed.
Cody retorted back a reply that was not historically accurate, trying to make up for his loss. Soon, after more practice
and more hits, and more misses, for each of us, we had a quick draw and a good aim. We devised a game much like
Stratego, except with a bow and arrow. After about twenty minutes mom rode up with the kids who she had just taken
to play at the old church. We set up a target about 18 feet from where the kids would be shooting from and got out
their smaller bow and arrow to fit it. Gabriel was the first to give it a try. Cody stood over him, instructing him on
what to do, how to hold the bow, how to put his fingers on the string, and such. Finally Gabriel was ready to go.
“Th-wap!” he let the arrow fly, and hit the target! Three more arrows flew from the little bow that the four year old
held in his pudgy fingers. Then Naomi, my seven year old little sister took the bow. You could just see that she was
excited to be shooting a bow and arrow, just like Queen Susan did! I must say Naomi was good for a first timer.
It must have been the “Susan face” that she did, because she got two bulls eyes! So we all took turns, Gabe, Naomi,
then Cody and I at the same time. Mom gave it a try too, and did very good. Then she left and invited some people
who were camping by us to come to the range, too. The lady, Mrs. Naomi, gave it a try, and did good too. Finally
everyone was done, everyone that is, but me. I was so enjoying myself that I didn’t want to leave, so Cody and I
stayed a bit longer, and I shot about eight more arrows before we left. I want to get good at using a bow.
You never know, I might need it someday…..
