SO WHAT DO WE THINK AFTER LIVING IN IT ONE YEAR?
It has been a really good camper for us. We have changed things around a lot since the baby was born. With 8 of us living in it now, we need every inch for our things. The camper did haul the atvs and kayaks in the back 12x8 ½ room. Now I drive a 15 passenger van with a flat bed behind it caring the atvs and kayaks. The back room has been converted into a full time kids room. Cody still has the top bunk, Naomi still has the bottom. The floor area has plastic shelves lining the walls with Gabriel’s clothes and all the kids toys and school books. In one corner I have my wonderful washer/dryer unit. It works well for us. Gabriel and Josephine sleep on the floor. I have tried Gabriel on the bunk, but he just rolls off. I think they must have put tissue paper in for insulation, just kidding. Sometimes it feels like it. In the back there is a draft that comes in along the floor. I wish we had payed the extra money for double pained windows. Cool air always comes in that way. Shae put a bunch of hooks in the doors of my pantry to hang mixing spoons, measuring spoons and cups, and other kitchen utensils. I use the 3M plastic hooks everywhere. They work great because they do not take the wallpaper off when we take them down. They do fall off of the walls every now and then. They only hold so much weight and can only be pulled on by little ones so many times before they break. Cody built me a desk in the living area slide out. I love it, especially since he made it. I have put more plastic shelves underneath it. Every time we moved from one campground to another all of my papers would fall off the shelves. Now they are held securely in place. I also use bungys everywhere. They are great. They hold many things in place that would otherwise fall during driving. We took out the tv holder in a cabinet in the bedroom. I use it for my clothes and other paperwork. Shae uses half of the closet for his desk. I have turned the dresser into a sewing table. For added privacy, I bought a inexpensive shower curtain and cut it in half. I put shower hooks across the top of the shower door and walls. The kids hang the shower curtain on the hooks around the shower.
It is a good camper, but I wonder if a bunkhouse or driving one would be better.
(6/30/2010) After looking at bunk house campers and driving Rvs, we have decided that we like ours the best. We are happy with it and continue to make changes as our family changes. We just spent six weeks at my mother’s trying to fix the back room, change beds, and de-clutter. It took so long to finish, but I love the way it turned out. I have bought a nice vacuum from Target. It is a “Shark”. I spent $200 on it, which was a lot for us, but I was so sick of dirty floors, (our other vacuums didn’t work well), that I told Shae we either get a good vacuum or I am ripping it all out. I can’t stand dirty floors with a new baby crawling on them. I just got a small steamer vacuum. I scrubbed the carpets last night and they look great, for cheap carpet in a camper! I have the three little ones in the bottom queen bunk now. They all sleep great. Gabriel is older , so does not roll off anymore. We put a carpet on the floor in the back with foam tiles on top. I am making curtains for the camper to help with air conditioning and heat. My mom sewed curtains for under my desk, the book shelf above the fridge and the area where my microwave used to be. The micro broke, so instead of replacing it, we put in shelves for bread, nuts, dried fruit, tortillas, cereal, etc. I am excited to get them up. They will hide the clutter look that is under them.
